Weekly Update 4/14- Spring Break
Happy Sunday!! We are just about to get started with our decorating party for banquet. We can definitely use your help putting together all of the banquet stuff if you're free- no experience required :)
Heading back through the week, we completed our spring production of The Addams Family that went exceptionally well thanks to the direction of Mr. Sales and the help of many parent volunteers!! If you volunteered or supported the production, many thanks go out to you!! We also had our 2nd of 3 area concerts at Gahr HS where our advanced band had another outstanding performance! Then we finished the week with our final family dinner night on Thursday, and a fun jazz band and colorguard trip to Knott's Berry Farm to hang out and enjoy some final moments for the year with friends.
This week is quite busy, so here we go:
Cerritos High School Area Concert- Wednesday 5/22
We have our final area concert of the year at Cerritos High School this week on Wednesday 5/22 featuring Carver, Leal, Whitman, Cerritos, Goncalves, and Stowers Elementary Schools, Tetzlaff and Carmenita Middle Schools, and Cerritos High School
The details for this are DIFFERENT than the other two concerts due to scheduling conflicts caused by the previous band director at CHS. Please read carefully!!
Date- Wednesday, 5/22
Times- Call Time- 4:00PM (3:45 if you're able to help unload the truck!), Performance, 5:00PM, Pickup- 6:00PM
Location- Cerritos HS West Gym (previous years have been in the East Gym)
Parking/ Drop-Off- Due to the scheduling conflicts, all parking and drop-off must happen in the North Lot located off of 183rd. All cars that attempt to drop-off or park in the Bloomfield lot will be turned away. Also, students will not be permitted to enter the campus from that side, and must enter from the 183rd street parking lot. Please help out and drop/ park in the correct lot!!
Food- CHS band boosters will be selling snacks and concessions for audience members. If they are still selling after we are packed up from the concert, students are welcome to purchase as well!
If you haven't been able to catch an area concert performance yet (or even if you have!), I hope you'll be able to come out and see another great performance!
Performing Arts Banquet- Thursday May 23rd
Our performing arts banquet is this week and hopefully you'll be joining us today to start getting ready as well! As a reminder, all students will receive recognition for their hard work in our program this year, and we will recognize a few students for outstanding achievements in the program this year as well as next year's student leadership team. Here are the details for the event.
Date- Thursday May 23rd
Location- Tetzlaff MS (on blacktop next to band room and the garden).
How To Attend- Attendance was via RSVP only and unfortunately if you have not RSVP'd already, it is too late to attend the banquet.
Check In- Once you arrive, you will be checked in by either myself, Ms. Melissa or another staff member. It is ok to arrive separately from other members of your family, just let us know which student you are there to see. Please make sure you do not have more guests show up than you RSVP'd for as we only have enough space for those who did sign up to attend and would unfortunately have to turn you away. Once you check in, you will be given a ticket for food and for a drink.
Dinner- We will be having catered taco plates! Due to the high volume of people attending (approximately 500), please allow for about a 10-15 minute wait to get your food once you enter. This caterer always does a fantastic job moving so many people through the line and I'm confident they will do a great job again this year!
Times- Check-in 5:00PM, Dinner 5:30- 6:25PM, Awards 6:30, Clean-up 7:15PM
Dress- Please plan to dress semi-formal for this event! We are requiring students and encouraging families to avoid wearing t-shirts or shorts (even me ). Help make this event special for our students!
Photos- If you have any photos from this year you would like added to our slideshow for banquet, please send them to me NO LATER THAN Wednesday!! I will not have time to add them to the slideshow on Thursday with all the crazy setup going on. These can be of the group, of your student or anything performing arts related from this school year!!
The more photos, the more fun it is for everybody to enjoy!
Volunteers- We will really need help after school on Thursday putting all the decorations together for banquet. If you are available, please let myself or Mrs. Walker know!
Looking forward to seeing everybody there to celebrate our students work this year!!

San Diego Trip 2019- Advanced Band Receives Gold Rating!
Great job to all of our advanced band students who traveled with us to San Diego for a weekend of performance and fun!! The group earned a Gold Rating (highest rating possible) for their performance at the Chula Vista Performing Arts High School Forum Festival. We would also like to congratulate our tuba section on receiving an outstanding section award! In addition to the performance, the group traveled via charter bus to excursions throughout San Diego including Sea World, Old Town San Diego and more! Thank you to our students for continuing to represent our school and band program in a fantastic way!
Unfortunately this year our performance got rained out, but we still had a fantastic time hanging out with friends, getting drenched at Disneyland and checking out the backstage area! Hopefully next year we will stay a little dryer!!
Pictures and Videos- Did you get a picture or video of the group from the performance?? If so, PLEASE send me a copy so that we can start collecting it all for our end of the year "yearbook." There are also many of you who have photos from other performances. Please get those to Mr. Gullett as soon as possible so we can get working on it ahead of time.
If you would like to check out my copy of our "official" Disneyland photo to copy or scan for yourself, you may do so. Please send your student to me and I will put them on the list. What I do ask is that anybody who borrows my picture return it the next school day so that everybody who needs to borrow it has a chance. Thanks
Sign Up for Remind!
Our Tetzlaff Band and Colorguard Remind App is Here!! The remind app is a way for myself and Mrs. De La Cruz to send text message reminders to everybody that come from a "one way, no- reply" phone number through the app. This protects all phone numbers of families and students who sign up for the app (nobody besides the remind app receives your phone number, including myself).
We will be using this tool primarily for updates during performances, last minute changes/ reminders for events, and reminders on when donations/ forms/ etc can be turned in. We do not plan on using it to remind students and parents of our regular schedule practices or things that are part of the daily routine.
To join the advanced band and colorguard list, simply follow text "@2f950" to phone number "81010"! You should receive a text message back confirming you are signed up. You do not need to download an app or go online to sign up. It does not cost any money to join, however standard text messaging rates do apply if you do not have unlimited text messages on your phone plan.
If you need help signing up, see the flyer attached or contact Mr. Gullett!
2014 Music Man Performance
WOW what a week!! I could not be more proud of the accomplishments and hard work of our students and the results of the weekend. We received so many positive compliments there was no way to keep count! Everybody from Musical Theatre West was extremely complimentary of our program and impressed by their performance.
This hard work paid off in a performing experience that our students will remember for the rest of their life and I am so happy to have been able to be a part of the experience!
I want to thank our phenomenal parents for all their help throughout the week, especially those able to made the trip to Carpenter Center with us! A special thank you to our parent coordinator Kris Gasporro for all the help planning for the week as well. Last I want to make sure to thank our students for all the hard work they put in to make this happen- not just this week, but all year to get to a point where we could perform this on such short notice. YOU ROCK TROJAN BAND AND COLORGUARD!!
