Our jazz band practice has moved from Monday to Tuesday this week!! Students in the musical should attend musical rehearsal. Everybody else- I'll see you there! We are learning a new funk chart :).
There is no jazz band Wednesday due to our festival @ Kennedy HS
Kennedy HS Festival Information- Wednesday 3/15
Our advanced band students will be performing at Kennedy High School's SCSBOA festival. This will be an opportunity for our students to perform for our concert set for a panel of respected music educators who will give scores/ratings for our performance and both written and recorded feedback tapes followed by a 30-minute clinic with one of the adjudicators.
Following the performance, we will watch a couple of the performing ensembles after us, and then head to In-N-Out as a team to celebrate the performance!
Here are the details:

(Jeans and shorts are not able to be worn. Black leggings can be worn under a long black skirt only) Alternate- A long black dress that goes below the knees while seated. A black cardigan can go on top if needed Shoes- Black dress shoes should be worn with crew cut or longer black socks (if socks are worn with your shoes). Marching shoes are OK to be worn as dress shoes.

Food- Students should bring $12 for food at In-N-Out. Students can choose a #1, 2, or 3 combo or a grilled cheese combo. If students prefer not to eat In-N-Out, they can leave a packed lunch with me (on the bus) or hang out with us during this time.
Qualifying for Festival- As with all adjudicated performances, students must qualify through their video assessments to perform (per the advanced band contract). To qualify to perform at festival, students must have passed 2/3 quizzes with a score of 50/60 or better. Students have been able to retake these quizzes as many times as needed. There is one more "grading period" left for students to perform which is Monday evening with quizzes submitted before 9PM. Any students who do not qualify to perform at the festival will attend school like a regular day and Mr. Peralta will be subbing for our 5th period class.
Colorguard Competition at Glenn A Wilson HS- Saturday 3/18- UPDATE
Because we were originally tentative on attending the show this weekend, we signed up late and have been on a waiting list for this show. We will find out Monday if we are able to get on the list!
If we DO, we will be making this performance our "team bonding day" where we will have lunch, watch awards, hang out for a team activity, and stay into the afternoon to see some of the HS performances! We would plan to arrive back about 5:30- 6PM. If we do not perform Saturday, we will add that plan to our April 1st performance!
If we DO perform, we will be peforming just before 10AM (similar to our other shows) and still have an early checkout available for students who are not able to hang with us for the day.
Thanks for your flexibility and I apologize for not having the finalized plan today!
Colorguard Costume Rhinestoning Day- PARENT HELP NEEDED- Friday, 1:30- 3:30PM
We are looking for parent volunteers who can help us rhinestone our costumes on Friday during our practice from 1:30- 3:30PM! Hector already has all the supplies ready for us, we just need some adult hands to help get them prepped and ready on our costumes!
Nobody wants to see what they'll look like if I do them- I guarantee not as good as the light posts... LOL
Please confirm if you are able to help out for part or all of the time!! Thank you in advance!!!

We will continue on to our hotel afterwards and our ETA is just after 10PM at the Doubletree Hotel.
An updated itinerary will follow this week!
Current 7th Grade Students 2023-24 Elective Signups
Our 7th-grade students will be filling out elective sign-ups for the next school year. Every year we count on our experienced 7th-grade students to be our leaders and anchors in the following school year for both our band and colorguard teams! We hope and plan for all of our 7th-grade advanced band students to rejoin us for an exciting year next year!! If for some reason your student is unsure, please have them communicate with me this week. I will be checking in with all students on Friday to start planning for next year
Current 8th Grade Student HS Registration
Our current 8th graders have began the process of registering for HS courses. All of our HS programs in ABC have awesome programs for our students and I know our 8th graders are ready to be part of the excellent groups at the HS level.
Please let me know if you have any questions about music or colorguard at the HS level and I would be happy to answer any questions I can, or get you in contact with the band teachers at the HS your student is attending if I am unable to. If your student already chose another HS course but is reconsidering joining band or colorguard instead, it is likely not too late! Let me know and I can get you in contact with the HS teacher :)
